Migrating from Goodreads to a personal reading tracker

Goodreads and StoryGraph are social networks first and reading logs second. If you want a quiet, private record of what you read — no feeds, no followers, no recommendations engine — this guide shows how to move your whole library across in a few minutes.

Public tracker vs. personal tracker

A public tracker turns reading into a performance: shelves are visible, ratings are aggregated, and the interface nudges you toward what's popular. A personal reading tracker like Booked & Beautiful keeps every book, rating and note in your own account, visible only to you. Same log, none of the audience.

• Ownership — export your data back to CSV whenever you want.

Step 1 — export your Goodreads library

In Goodreads, open My Books, scroll to Import and export in the left sidebar, and choose Export Library. Goodreads emails you a CSV containing titles, authors, ISBNs, ratings, shelves and date-read values. StoryGraph offers the same thing under Manage account → Export StoryGraph library.

Step 2 — import the CSV into Booked & Beautiful

Sign in to Booked & Beautiful, open the Tracker tab and choose Import CSV. It reads both the Goodreads and StoryGraph column layouts automatically, maps shelves to Read, Currently reading and Want to read, and preserves your star ratings and finish dates. Where a row has an ISBN, missing covers, page counts and genres are filled in for you.

Step 3 — tidy up your shelves

After importing, scan for duplicates (Booked & Beautiful flags matching title/author/ISBN pairs), set page counts on the book you're reading now so progress bars work, and mark abandoned books as DNF instead of deleting them — the completion rate on your dashboard becomes far more honest that way.

Step 4 — set a goal and keep going

Set an annual reading goal, and let the calendar and stats build up. Everything you logged over years on Goodreads keeps counting — it just lives somewhere quieter now.
